Why File a Xarelto Lawsuit?
Xarelto (Rivaoxaban) is an anticoagulant or blood thinner that was jointly created and marketed by Bayer and Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen pharmaceuticals unit. Current Xarelto lawsuits claim that it was sold and heavily marketed as a safer blood thinner over the traditionally used Warfarin. However unlike Warfarin, Xarelto has no reversal agent to stop bleeding. In the event of a serious bleed, doctors may struggle to the control or stop the bleeding. This can lead to serious and sometimes fatal results.
Xarelto Lawsuits Allege Manufacturers Of:
- Marketing Xarelto as Safer than Other Blood Thinners
Manufacturers and marketers, Bayer and Janssen, of Xarelto marketed Xarelto as being safer than other anticoagulants, despite knowing that patients have a higher risks of uncontrollable internal bleeding than those taking other traditional blood thinners.
- Failing To Warn
They failed to adequately warn patients about the risks of suffering a dangerous and potentially fatal bleed when taking Xarelto.
- Not Advising Doctors on How to Stop Bleeding from Xarelto
Doctors were not advised on how to intervene and stabilize a bleeding event in a patient.
- Placing Profits Ahead of the Public's Safety
Bayer and Janssen unethically placed more value on maximizing profits than working to reduce the risks of bleeding from the drug.
Pradaxa vs Xarelto: Will Xarelto Suffer Pradaxa’s Fate?
Pradaxa (Dabigatran), made by Boehringer Ingelheim, is a similar type of blood thinner to Xarelto. It was also sold and marketed as a safer than Warfarin because it limited stroke causing blood clots. Like Xarelto, Pradaxa increases the risks of serious uncontrollable bleeding without any known reversal to stop the bleeding.
The manufacturers of Pradaxa, downplayed and minimized the risks of developing serious bleeding without an immediate way to stop it. Pradaxa use resulted in hundreds of deaths and thousands of patient with serious damages. Xarelto use has already been linked to at least 65 deaths from uncontrollable bleeding.
In May of 2014, Boehringer Ingelheim announced that they will pay $650 million to settle over 4,000 lawsuits involving their blood thinner.
