Suffered from Ketoacidosis after taking Invokana or other SGLT2 Inhibitor?
Get HelpUntreated Ketoacidosis Can Cause Serious Harm
The highest concern among side effects of these drugs is the potential for ketoacidosis. Ketoacidosis occurs when cells in the body don’t get a sufficient amount of glucose (sugar) to use for energy. To compensate, fat molecules are broken down and – as a side effect of this process – ketone bodies are formed. Ketones increase the level of acidity in the blood, which impairs important physiological processes and can be fatal if left unaddressed.
Other Side Effects of Invokana, Farixga, Jardiance
In addition to ketoacidosis, SGLT2 inhibitors may cause low blood pressure, increased LDL cholesterol, yeast infections, and high blood potassium levels. Each of these conditions may pose a significant threat to your overall health in and of themselves. If you have suffered from these or other side effects while taking SGLT2 inhibitors, you are encouraged to report your experiences to your health care provider as well as to the FDA.

Invokamet is similar to Invokana in that they both contain the product canagliflozin, and they are both produced by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. It is unique, however, in that it also includes the drug metformin, a commonly prescribed drug for Type II diabetics that improves the body’s sensitivity to insulin. While canagliflozin itself was approved by the FDA in 2013, the formulation including metformin was not approved by the FDA until August of 2014. Common side effects of Invokana / Invokamet include:
